Cayan is the credit card processor that previously went by the name Merchant Warehouse. Among the processors we reviewed that offer both tiered and interchange-plus pricing, its rates are very good. It also rates well for its service terms and customer service, but it lacks the transparency and consistency of information that many other processors provide.

This credit card processor offers both tiered and interchange-plus rates. Of the companies that quoted us tiered rates, Cayan's were among the best, with 0.28% for qualified debit cards and 1.54% for qualified credit cards. Its interchange-plus rate of 0.20% + $0.10 is also better than average.

Cayan's monthly fee of $4.95 is among the lowest we saw, and it doesn't require a monthly minimum. The other fee you can expect to pay is a yearly PCI-compliance fee of $99. Cayan has a low-cost guarantee and offers to match the costs of other processors if you can provide it with a fee schedule from a competitor.

If you want to process transactions online as well as in person, Cayan can set up a payment gateway for you. The gateway has a monthly fee of $10. You are required to set up a separate merchant account for your online processing, which means that you have to pay another monthly fee. Cayan has its "Genius" API, which allows for customization if you or one of your employees has software development experience.

Cayan's rates and fees are excellent, but it lacks transparency and consistency when compared to other processors. It does not list any specifics about its fees, pricing or terms on its website. Our testers contacted Cayan multiple times, each speaking with different reps, and received varying information. However, the reps our testers spoke with were helpful and knowledgeable.

If you are opening a new business or haven't yet updated your terminal, Cayan can provide you with an EMV-ready terminal at a lower-than-average cost. Plus, Cayan promises to future-proof its terminals so they can accept contactless payment methods, such as Android Pay and Apple Pay that use NFC technology.

Cayan's service terms and setup process are better than the industry average. The application can be completed electronically and setup takes one day. After you begin processing, it can clear the account and deposit your money into your business bank account within one to two days. Customer support is high quality; the reps are helpful and you can contact them by phone, email or live chat on the processor's website.

Cayan Summary:

Cayan offers excellent tiered rates and better-than-average interchange-plus pricing. This, along with excellent service terms and quality customer service, makes it a credit card processor well worth investigating.

Cayan offers some of the best tiered pricing in our review.

This processor does not list information about its pricing, fees and terms online.

The Verdict:

Cayan has competitive rates and pricing, but it isn't as transparent and consistent as other processors we reviewed.
